Am I liable for carbon tax?

General information, not tax advice.

A free two-minute check that tells a South African facility which carbon tax and SAGERS thresholds it probably crosses. One site at a time. Nothing you type is stored.

1. Do you run a facility in South Africa, and does your company control how it operates day to day?

Include boilers, thermal oil heaters, furnaces, kilns, dryers, ovens and generators, including standby units. Enter 0 if nothing burns fuel.

How to work it out
  • Add the rated heat input of each unit.
  • For a generator, use full-load fuel use: MW(th) = litres per hour × 0.84 × 43 ÷ 3,600. Roughly, 100 litres of diesel an hour at full load is about 1 MW(th).
  • Do not use kVA or kWe. The threshold is thermal input.

4. How much fuel did the site burn in the last full calendar year?

5. Do you make clay bricks or other fired ceramic products, such as roof tiles, tiles, stoneware or porcelain?
6. Do you produce any of these at this site?
